My wife and I stayed here recently for a weekend "get away". What a wonderful treat! The staff, the accommodations, the grounds....hard to say which was nicer! Please believe all you read and hear about the smorgasborg breakfast/lunch/dinner. It is absolutely fabulous! The staff are extremely helpful and courteous. Our room was "cozy"!. Location is very close to wonderful theatre experiences and shopping as well. We will be back soon!

Wow it's hot!!
Hello everyone and welcome to summertime!! I hope that everyone is having fun so far!! Summer here at Hershey Farm means the arrival of fresh produce!!! We look forward to this time each year. Cantaloupe, watermelon, tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, peaches, strawberries, grapes, and sweet corn arrive fresh from a local auction. All of theses items are prepared for the smorgasbord in various ways. Tomatoes, cucumbers and a variety of fruits may be chunked for the salad bar. Sweet and sour cucumbers and tomatoes are available fresh on the buffet.
Try this at home:
Cut some fresh tomatoes into wedges and place them in a mixing bowl. You will need about 1 quart. Sprinkle 2 tablespoons of sugar, 1 Tablespoon of vinegar, and a sprinkle of pepper on the tomatoes. Stir them well and refrigerate until cold. Serve them with a salad or on their own for a fresh homegrown dish!
If you are a cheese lover like me, try adding some cubes of your favorite cheese right before you serve them. You can also use the same recipe with thinly sliced cucumbers.
I hope you enjoy your summer and keep cool! We are continuing to grill and cook fresh here at Hershey Farm, so stop in and check them out!!
I'll leave you with one more summertime treat to try.
Get out your favorite salsa recipe and replace the tomato with small chunked watermelon. This is a wonderful sweet tasting salsa that goes great on grilled chicken!! Give it a try!! Have a great summer!! Jon, Kitchen Manager

Hello,
As Manager of the Inn at Hershey Farm I love receiving feedback from guests. I recently received a lovely email that I am happy to be sharing with you!
My husband and I recently traveled to Lancaster for my birthday/"babymoon" trip. We travel a good deal and have stayed at a number of hotels, motels, inns, B&Bs, etc. but this was a whole different experience. Our room was spotlessly clean, everyone on staff (from the front desk check-in to the staff at the restaurant, even the housekeeper!) was very friendly and accommodating, the grounds were beautiful, and the food was excellent! We were so sad to leave! The location is ideal; it is literally a 2 minute walk from the theater (Sight and Sound I think?), close enough to outlets, the railroad, and many local attractions, but not right on the highway or in some noisy parking lot. The parking was convenient, and as I said, the grounds were nice for a (much-needed) stroll after dinner. The "smorgasbord" was all I could have asked for and more! I do want to warn, though, if you are looking for something ritzy, this probably isn't it (but if you were looking for ritzy, you probably wouldn't be looking in Lancaster in the first place). It is more homey and comfortable. I would go back in a heartbeat, and have already recommended it to friends and family members!

Well, it's hard to believe that the winter is over already and Spring is arriving here at the Farm. As the fields and the flowers begin to show their colors, the kitchen and bakery are growing new things as well. Spring signals the beginning of the local auction items that we use on the buffet. Local produce is a big part of the variety we like to serve on the buffet. We use things like strawberries, watermelon, cantaloupe, and a huge hit, corn on the cob. Some of these items aren't available yet, but plans for them are already made. Fresh cubed watermelon and cantaloupe will top off any meal, as will some vanilla pudding with a few blueberries!! I'm looking forward to fresh strawberry pie and strawberry shortcake with vanilla ice cream!! Yum!!
We are continuing to try new items on the buffet to keep the variety fresh. Some of the new exciting items are Crab au gratin, Green bean casserole, specially seasoned lasagna, BBQ ribs, and our gourmet grilled cheese. These items are available at different times on the hot food bar and also on our fresh grill area. We have also made a few new items for the dessert bar. Stop in and check out the lemon pound cake parfait with lemon zest, our fresh made warm sticky buns with cream cheese icing, and our fruit salad with yogurt. It's always a lot of fun to create new dishes (and to have to taste them!!) for the smorgasbord. Look for our local postcard or call for a listing of daily grill specials and plan to stop in and see what's new on Hershey Farm's smorgasbord.
Maybe in late June I will share some pointers on making a fresh watermelon salsa, and how to use it to season fresh fish grilled in foil packets. Have a great month!! Talk to you soon!!

A week or so ago I was invited to be a part of a unique experience offered at Hershey Farm Restaurant, a hands on event called, Create Your Own Shoofly Pie.
Jon Seibel (scroll down to see Jon in action), Hershey Farm Restaurant's Kitchen Manager and resident foodie, walked each participant through the process from start (an empty pie dish) to finish (a completely mixed and crumb covered Shoofly Pie waiting to be baked).
Each completed pie is then transported to the Hershey Farm Bakery ovens, baked until golden, placed in a bakery box and delivered to participants after they have enjoyed a lunch or dinner in the Restaurant, in this case lunch. I think this is a lovely way to learn about the traditions in a new area or even the area in your backyard. What do you think?

Mother's Day will be here soon (this year it is Sunday, May 9th) and at Hershey Farm Restaurant that means we are preparing for one of our 3 largest holidays of the year, the other two being Easter and Thanksgiving. We started accepting reservations the day after Easter.
On Mother's Day we serve our breakfast smorgasbord from 7 am until 10:30 am. Reservations are recommended. Some items featured on our breakfast smorgasbord are a grill station where fresh omelets are custom made with ingredients like ham, bacon, sausage, cheese and vegetables. We also feature a make your own waffle station which can be enjoyed with syrup or even our soft serve ice cream if you really want a treat!
We begin serving lunch at 11:30 and the last reservation time is 5:00. Again we recommend reservations. Traditionally most reservation spots fill up early in the day. Our lunch smorgasbord will feature many of our signature items but we will also offer some new items both on the hot food bar and on our newly expanded dessert bar. A favorite with guests at Easter was our chocolate fountain.
If your family would like to enjoy a full service meal, also offer Family Style dining to groups of 8 or more. Reservations are required for this meal. The menu includes our golden fried chicken, tender roast beef and ham balls along with hot and cold vegetables, pie and ice cream for dessert. This meal is served from 12 noon until 2:45.
We would love to share this special holiday with you and your family and friends. Please call the restaurant front desk for more information and to make reservations.

We are in full-swing at the Inn at Hershey Farm, as Spring has been bypassed by summer. The warm weather has brought beautiful greenery to our 23 acres of grounds, with many guests enjoying our walking trails around the perimeter of our property. Numerous guests attending the premiere show of "Joseph" at the Sight & Sound Millennium Theatre are enjoying walking to the show on our designed walking trails, avoiding the congested Rt. 896 coming in & out of the theatre.
We are glad to announce the arrival of several new family members to Hershey Farm. Our two baby lambs & two baby goats arrived last week and are settling in fine in our Red pole barn behind the restaurant, with occasional visits up to our animal area in front of the restaurant. Please feel free to come visit them anytime. Don't forget to stop at the front desk of the Inn to purchase food.
We continue to hear favorable comments from guests on our newly renovated breakfast buffet. The addition of personalized omelets seem to be the biggest hit. Have you had one yet?
Looking forward to your next visit!

Starting on Sunday, April 25th, Hershey Farm Restaurant and Inn will be holding their monthly car cruises. These cruises are held from 1:00-4:00 pm on the last Sunday of each month beginning in April and running through October. Cruise on over in that speedy hot rod, custom classic or sporty muscle car. Park along our scenic driveway to the Sight & Sound theatre. (Don't worry-this driveway is only open to the classics on cruise day. No public traffic.) Bring your lawn chairs and have a relaxing Sunday in our gardens. Mingle with other classic car enthusiasts and sit back and enjoy the admiration as people pass by your "special wheels".
Belong to a car club? Why not plan a club outing to one of Hershey Farm's cruises? Even include a lunch or dinner with the outing in our restaurant. For groups of 15 or more, please contact me, Sherry Wertz, at (800) 822-7866 to arrange your group dining.
Spring has finally arrived! Pull off that car cover, rev that engine and take a drive to Hershey Farm Restaurant and Inn for a Sunday Country Cruise!

Greetings from the Hershey Farm Kitchen!
Things have been really busy here in the kitchen. With our new remodeling project, I have had the opportunity to once again do what I love, and create new food. We have introduced a grill area for the customers to enjoy and it has been a huge hit. People are now able to walk right up to the grill and order a fresh item made just for them. Of course this sounds great in theory, but working out the logistics has taken some time. I have enjoyed the process of creating the system to operate the grill area as well as creating some of the food options. We began preparing the grill items much like we do any time we develop a new recipe. Research, research, research. I spent lots of time looking through cook books and searching the internet for ideas and recipes. Once we had an arsenal of ideas, the fun begins! I had a blast making cheese steaks, sliders, quesadillas, omelets, and one of my personal favorites, steak fajitas!! I also enjoyed creating things like a grilled meatloaf sandwich with homemade BBQ sauce, Grilled Reuben sandwich, and Grilled Chicken Cordon Blue with Hollandaise sauce. Many of these items will be on the grill this month so stop in and check them out!!
People often ask me questions about cooking and how to make certain items. One of the things I often tell people is to taste as you go. If you think it is good, and your best friend thinks it's good (hopefully they are honest), then chances are, it's probably good! Here is a great tip for grilling chicken this summer. It takes a little more work, but the results are worth it! In the kitchen, heat up a sautee pan and put a little butter in it. Allow the butter to melt and begin to simmer. Take the raw chicken breast and place it in the simmering butter. Allow the chicken to cook for just a few minutes before you flip it over. You are basically searing the outside of the meat. Once all of your chicken is seared, head out to the grill and slap them on! The searing process seals in the juice and keeps them from sticking to the char grill. Add your favorite seasonings and or sauces and get ready to taste a delicious moist piece of chicken! For some added flavor, add some salt, garlic, and pepper to the butter when you sear the chicken. Good luck and happy cooking!!
Jon

As one of the managers at Hershey Farm, I always appreciate feedback and comments our guests pass along. Here is one we received last week from one of our guests. Thanks for checking in with us! Brett, Manager, The Inn at Hershey Farm
We had a wonderful stay at your Inn. We have been there before and found it just as nice this time as in the past. And, the improvements to the restaurant were wonderful and the breakfast delicious. JoAnn was our waitress and as always, very friendly and gracious. I had a chance to speak with our housekeeper on the morning we left and very much enjoyed talking to her --- not sure of a first name, but I believe she said her last name was Lapp. We are looking forward to our next visit!

After 7 weeks of hard work, snow storms and only being open weekends in our Gardenview Dining Room, it is now business as usual at Hershey Farm.
We reopened our doors and our brand new buffet area on Saturday, February 20th. Following the weekend, we invited guests to come see our newly remodeled restaurant and enjoy our buffet for only $5.00 per person.
The grand reopening was a huge success. The $5.00 buffet brought numerous people to our restaurant. Some came every day!! A guest from the Washington DC area heard about our offer and called inquiring about the buffet and the special offer.
Our guests were curious to see the new and exciting changes that we had been talking about for months. The new food room has no resemblance to the old one. We removed some seating in order to add additional food bars and improve the movement through the food room and decrease the lines.
We continue to serve 3 homemade soups but have added chili and a baked potato bar to our soup and salad bar. We added a grill station which offers a variety of dishes that are made especially for each guest with ingredients that they choose. Some of the selections include omelets and eggs made to order at breakfast. Chicken or beef fajitas, cheese steaks, Italian sausage sandwiches, chicken alfredo, hamburger sliders and stir fry just to name a few.
When it comes to dessert, there were many additions as well. We now offer soft serve ice cream with various toppings, pudding parfaits and jello. We continue to serve our signature whoopie pies and chocolate cake. We are very excited about the addition of a beautiful chocolate fountain that graces the dessert bar at dinner time and weekends. There are amazing soft pretzels as well for those people who like salty along with their sweet.
We had a continuous flow of guests who visited us during the week of the $5.00 special offer. Even when the wait to be seated exceeded 2 ½ hours, guests continued to wait patiently in order to try our new buffet. Each day we served over 1,000 people. An outstanding outcome for our reopening special.
With that said, if you have not experienced the new buffet we invite you to stop in and see us. If you visited us during our Grand reopening special, thank you for helping to make that week a wonderful success for us. Your business is greatly appreciated here at Hershey Farm. Come back and visit us again soon!

The Bakery at Hershey Farm bakes a delicious chewy Oatmeal Raisin Cookie.
When you think of an oatmeal raisin cookie you may think 'yum', or 'sweet and chewy', or you may even think the words 'old fashioned'. Whatever you currently think when it comes to oatmeal raisin cookies, after trying one from the Bakery at Hershey Farm, you wont want to try any others.
Full of juicy raisins and chewy oatmeal these cookies have a sweet and spicy base. Perfect to enjoy as a dessert, a snack, or even (on a rushed morning) breakfast. Savor them with a tall glass of milk or a steaming mug of tea or coffee. These cookies can be enjoyed anytime, anywhere. The Bakery at Hershey Farm will ship them right to your door.
For details call a Hershey Farm Baker at 1-800-827-8635 x713 or email bakery@hersheyfarm.com.

The Bakery at Hershey Farm bakes my favorite buyable chocolate chip cookie (and I'm not just saying that because I work here).
Though 8 cookies come in a package, they don't last long. To sum up what makes these cookies the best I will share my best friend's reaction after I offered her one, 'Mmmmm Chocolate'. Each cookie is baked with a blend of chocolate chips, chunks, and bits which melt together in your mouth with enough flavor to satisfy any chocolate craving.
My boyfriend enjoys them with ice cream (I recommend chocolate, he recommends vanilla), I enjoy them slightly warm, and you can enjoy delicious Hershey Farm Chocolate Chip Cookies anytime anywhere. The Bakery at Hershey Farm will ship them right to your door. Visit Hershey Farm's Online Bakery to get yours today!

The Bakery at Hershey Farm offers delicious freshly baked bread. This past week I took home a loaf of their traditional white bread.
Simple and light, the mild flavor of this bread make it perfect for cold (BLT, Ham and swiss) and hot sandwiches (especially grilled cheese), any type of toast you like, cinnamon, French, garlic, and sweet or savory bread puddings. I am also imagining this bread in an egg casserole.
The texture is smooth and the bread holds up when used as a base for cheesy garlic bread (I know this- my family loves cheese) or as a spoon with 'dippy eggs' otherwise known as eggs over easy. Leave it unwrapped overnight, add seasonings to taste and VOILA homemade croutons.
For details call a Hershey Farm Baker at 1-800-827-8635 x713 or email bakery@hersheyfarm.com.

Sight & Sound Theater
New for 2010
In March 2010, Sight & Sound Theater in Lancaster, PA will be unveiling their first new show since the 2007 premier of "In The Beginning". Final preparations are being done for the premier season of "Joseph". Now, we know the "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" has played many places over the years but this brand new production at Sight & Sound Theatres is not that show.
Sight & Sound's production of "Joseph" illustrates the biblical story about forgiveness, integrity and following your dreams. It is meant to inspire you to walk uprightly in the midst of great temptation.
Sight & Sound's depiction of this story will magnify the many qualities that make this story appeal to all ages. There will be a cast of 45 professional adult and children actors, dozens of live animals gracing the aisles and several amazing dream sequences. Joseph, of course, will at one point adorn his colorful coat and fly over the audience. Don't forget Sight & Sound's 300 foot wrap-around stage that will include a larger-than-life spectacular Egyptian palace scene. And, then there are the twenty original songs that will be performed during this production.
Come see the beautiful Nile River made from yards and yards of blue silk. Meet King Tut- the hairless Sphinx cat.
You will leave this show energized, renewed in your faith, and inspired to dream big for God's glory!
Book your reservations now and don't miss out on the premiere season of "Joseph" at Sight & Sound Millennium Theater playing March 6-October 30, 2010.

As the North Wind blows and the snowflakes fly, remember it won't be long to spring. Spring in Lancaster County means the return of an annual tradition, mud sales. Mud sales are held in the Spring every year throughout Lancaster County. Mud sales earned their nickname because they are held from the end of February through the middle of April just as the ground is thawing and turning to mud.
Mud sales are an annual fundraiser held by local volunteer fire companies. These companies are manned entirely by volunteers, not only for fundraising activities, but also to handle any and all emergency calls in the area.
Held in the local farmers' fields, mud sales have numerous auctioneers going at one time and selling anything from food, tools, household goods, farm equipment, mowers, bikes, antiques and even the kitchen sink. A highlight of every mud sale is the handmade quilt auction which goes on most of the day.
And, of course, if you are in Lancaster County, there must be good food close by. Mud sales come with a variety of menus ranging from homemade chicken corn soup, French fries, milk shakes, hand twisted pretzels, baked goods and so much more.
Grab your galoshes! Head to Lancaster County, mingle with the Amish, tramp through the muddy fields, find a great bargain and support the dedicated, hard working volunteers who protect Lancaster County!
Suggestion: Hershey Farm Restaurant and Inn is within 15-30 minutes of all these sales listed below. Why not book a room at the Inn and make it a weekend getaway to the area?

Amish Camp, Experience 24 hours of the REAL Simple Life.
Strasburg, PA- Hershey Farm Restaurant & Inn, a premier dining and lodging destination located in Lancaster County, PA, is offering a unique experience to students, scouts, and groups of all kinds, Amish Camp. Amish Camp is designed for groups to leave the modern life behind and experience a day in the life of the Amish. The camp's goal is to promote a deeper understanding of a centuries old lifestyle while creating memories that will last a lifetime.
Creating the first memory at Hershey Farm's Amish Camp starts with participants enjoying a PA Dutch smorgasbord. Guests then view a demonstration detailing Amish fashion and style of dress. Participants will wear modified versions of Amish garb for the rest of the experience. Camp includes hands on experiences such as 'Make your own Shoofly Pie', Amish activities, an ice cream social, buggy ride, Amish house tour, and a fireside chat with Jakey, a local Amish man who will tell stories and answer questions. At Amish Camp daily farm chores will not only be discussed, they will be done at a nearby Amish farm.
Full immersion would not be complete with out spending the night as many Amish do, with no modern conveniences, electric lights, television, or telephones. This memory is set at Hershey Farm Inn. The Inn is surrounded by 23 acres of landscaped grounds that act as a buffer against the modern world. In-room modern conveniences like electric lights and television are replaced by Amish alternatives.
Anyone interested in experiencing 24 hours in the life of the Amish is encouraged to learn more at www.hersheyfarm.com or by calling 1-800-822-7866.

Our family enjoyed our weekend get-away and was extremely pleased with the Hershey Farm Inn. We generally travel to Lancaster every fall and this was our first visit to your Inn; it will definitely not be our last! Your grounds are beautiful, and we were not disappointed with the restaurant either. Our dinner was fantastic (and our waitress, Sue, was a pleasure!). Needless to say, our complimentary breakfast was far from the standard continental breakfast!!
I have attached some photos from our time at your Inn. Thank you for making our travel to Lancaster a very memorable visit.

Whole Wheat Roll (I wish everyone could feel how soft that roll was).
It's been one week since Plate A Day began. Are there any suggestions for the perfect Hershey Farm meal? Let me know!
June 30, 2009
Tuesday, June 30, 2009.
It's warm and slightly humid outside with a chance of rain. But it's cool inside and I went straight comfort food.
Today's plate includes:
Hershey Farm's own slow roasted pot roast (with carrots and celery and tender chunks of roast)
Green Beans (again, I try to be good!)
Mashed Potatoes (what do you eat with your pot roast?)
I also splurged today and picked up two oatmeal raisin cookies. Soft and chewy they finished off my meal perfectly. In fact, I could go for another one...
June 29, 2009
It's Monday, June 29, 2009.
Today's plate includes:
Garden Salad (from the salad bar, I combined lettuce, cucumbers, carrots, purple cabbage, hard boiled egg, cheddar and mozz cheese, and croutons, YUM)
Roast Turkey with gravy
Brown Buttered Noodles
All in all I say this plate is a perfect way to say HI to Monday!

Plate A Day for Thursday, June 25, 2009.
Our Bakery Manager, Krystal, shares her lunch with us for today's Plate a Day.
Krystal's Plate Includes:
Garden Salad with Ranch Dressing (her favorite)
Hershey Farm's Famous Fried Chicken
Mashed Potatoes (Krystal added only pepper to hers as Hershey Farm makes real mashed potatoes in true PA Dutch fashion- with no pepper added)
Macaroni Salad
Cold Coca Cola
June 24, 2009
Today's Plate A Day for Wednesday, June 24, 2009.
Meat loaf
Real Mashed Potatoes (I just noticed that my helping of mashed potatoes takes up 1/3 of the plate. What can I say? I like potatoes)
Fresh Broccoli (I try to be good!)
Roll
As you can see I added a bit of butter to the potatoes. I could have saved my time though, they didnt need any. The broccoli was perfect and not over cooked. I havent enjoyed our meatloaf in a while but I know I will soon. It was juicy with tons of flavor. Yum.

As an employee I eat lunch at Hershey Farm Restaurant 5 times a week. While filling my plate one day last week I wondered how many different lunches it is possible to make from the more than 100 delicious items featured on the Grand Smorgasbord, Soup, Salad and Bread Bar, not forgetting the Full Dessert Bar.
I invite suggestions and comments as I begin what I feel will be a lengthy (and tasty) endeavor.
Starting Tuesday, June 23, 2009, I chose all of my personal favorites that could fit on one plate (as good a place to start as any, I think).
Here is what I came up with:
A crisp and juicy piece of Hershey Farm's Famous Fried Chicken
Fresh green beans
Sweet corn
Baked sweet potatoes with marshmallow topping (who needs dessert? I'll take a second helping of these please)
Stay Tuned for the next 'Plate A Day' Lunch!

At the Bakery at Hershey Farm you can find freshly baked breads (here is a picture of freshly baked white loaves. you wouldn't believe how fantastic they smell!) including cheese, iced apple, and white and whole wheat loaves.
The Bakery's quickbreads are delicious as a dessert with a side of ice cream or griddled with melted butter for a breakfast treat. Quickbreads are available in a variety of flavors including (but not limited to) Triple Berry, Zucchini, Shoofly, and my personal favorite, Cinnamon.
The Bakery at Hershey Farm also boasts the best whoopie pies in the area. Really, these whoopie pies were voted the #1 Whoopie Pies in Lancaster County. Available in chocolate, red velvet (shown) and pumpkin.
Hershey Farm offers a selection of their freshly baked Bakery items on the dessert bar including soft cookies (chocolate chip, oatmeal raisin, peanut butter, sugar) and a wide selection of pies and cakes.
Favorites, including apple pie and Lancaster Co's traditional wet bottom shoofly pie (shown), are available for purchase in the Bakery as well as online.

Over the Memorial Day weekend Hershey Farm provided a 'Create Your Own' Whoopie Pie activity for children at the Flavor Fest 2009. This fun, interactive experience allows children to make Lancaster's #1 Whoopie Pie, their way.
Starting with a Hershey Farm signature Whoopie Pie shell kids added as much (or as little) whipped filling as they wanted to before topping it off with the second moist and perfectly chocolaty (trust me here, they are great) Whoopie Pie shell.
The next place for your child to create their own Whoopie Pie is at the 5th Annual Whoopie Pie Festival. This free Festival is held Saturday, September 19, 2009 from 11am - 5pm. For more details visit www.whoopiepiefestival.com.

My name is Clair Zeager and I have been working for Hershey Farm since 1998. I work with Michelle in the office taking care of the administrative work for Hershey Farm. I currently live in Boston, MA and I do most of my administrative work for Hershey Farm from my home in Boston. I come to Hershey Farm about twice a week for a few days, so that is why most of you don't see me that much or not at all.
By far the most enjoyable thing for me in my 10 years working for Hershey Farm has been the people that I have met and the relationships that I have built during my time working at Hershey Farm. What little I know about other companies employees makes me believe that we have the most amazing group of people that work for Hershey Farm. I have been so blessed by everybody that takes time to say hi to me and talk with me when I run into them at Hershey Farm. I appreciate the housekeeping and front desk staff that always makes me feel special when I stay overnight at the motel. I appreciate the gift shop staff that always very kind to me when I'm in the store. I appreciate the waitresses that always ask me how I'm doing and how things are going in Boston. I appreciate the kitchen staff and the bakery staff that always have to deal with me giving away food to somebody or some organization. There are so many more people that I could thank individually that have worked at Hershey Farm over the past 10 years, but that would make letter way to long. All of this means to me that we have so many amazing people that work at Hershey Farm, and I am grateful and honored to be a part of this group.

Hello, my name is Brian Ludwig. I attended high school at Garden Spot in New Holland. I then went to Penn State University to major in food services and motel management. I was active in sports in High School and at Penn State I was given the opportunity to work with the gymnastic team to help manage, train and coach. It fulfilled two of my biggest interests, food service and athletic training. Penn State had an excellent food service program and they had an excellent gymnastic program. The year I graduated, the gymnastic team took first place in the nation. I was blessed to work under Gene Wettstone, the gymnastic head coach and gained much valuable information on development and motivation of athletics. I found this to be significant training grounds for learning how to manage food service employees in the future. I thoroughly loved Penn State. The athletic department offered me a full scholarship to receive my Master's degree if I would continue my work with various sports teams. As much as I loved the aspect, I felt it was time to begin my career in food service.
After college, I came to work for Tom Zeager at Family Time restaurant. I managed four restaurants for Mr. Zeager and when he purchased Hershey Farm in 1992, I fell in love with the facility. I was given the opportunity to manage Hershey Farm from 1992-2005. It is an awesome place to work. I still was able to stay in touch with gymnastics and became close friends with Vitaly Scherbo, who in 1992 won 6 gold metals in the Olympics. He spent much time at Penn State so I had a great connection for meeting Vitaly.
Food service and sports have been great for me. I love Hershey Farm and I love training athletes. At the present time I am the retail manager at Hershey Farm. I also do weight training for high school wrestlers. My main focus though, along with my role at Hershey Farm, is being more involved in Christian ministry. I teach 3 bible studies a week and find that to be extremely fulfilling.
I have truly been blessed with my opportunity at Penn State and working for Mr. Zeager and now with a major focus on Christian ministry. I also enjoy writing. I have written 4 short Christian books and plan on writing more in the future.

The Shenandoah Valley has a rich heritage in southern Gospel Music. In March, of the year 2000, a quartet was formed to carry this fine tradition into the new century. They are, *THE PROMISEDLAND QUARTET*, an exciting group of male vocalists based in Edinburg, Virginia. Individually they have ministered in churches, concert halls, schools, and outside events in nearly 25 states, and have performed on regional television and played on Gospel Radio nationwide. Collectively, they have over 60 years of gospel experience. Remarkable, considering that the average member age is only 42! Following the example of some of the *80s and *90s *super quartets*, PromisedLand in such a very short time, has been identified as having a *big traditional sound*. Diehard quartet fans ask; does the bass singer sing LOW? Of course! Can the tenor really go UP? Most certainly! But more importantly, the group has a well-balanced blend of voices and personalities that allows for quite a variety of styles and moods during every concert (if you enjoy laughing, you will not be disappointed).
The Promised Land Quartet will be coming to Hershey Farm Restaurant, October, 2009.
Sat 10/3 - Breakfast show
Sun 10/4 - Breakfast show
Sat 10/17 - Breakfast show
Sun 10/18 - Breakfast show

If you've stayed or eaten at Hershey Farm Restaurant & Inn over the past 18 years, there is a pretty good chance that somewhere along the line you've run into me, Brett Eby.
I might be what you call a Hershey Farm "Lifer". My career at Hershey Farm started as a busboy at age 15. My mother applied for a hostess position and a stipulation of her taking on the job was that they would hire me as a busser. I made my first promotion at age 17 to become the first male waiter. Soon after that, I began greeting & seating at the front desk and eventually became front desk manager of the restaurant. During my time working at Hershey Farm, I graduated from a local high school and went on to receive a Bachelor's Degree in Business Management from Goldey-Beacom College in Delaware. In 1997, I transferred to the Inn. This transfer has broadened my knowledge of the business and enabled me to appreciate all aspects of Hershey Farm operations. Hershey Farm graciously held my position for me several times during which I participated in mission work overseas in 2000 & 2001. Through my position at the Inn, I've had the opportunity to meet individuals from virtually all 50 states and many foreign countries, as well.
Next time you're passing through Lancaster County, stop by Hershey Farm Inn and say hello. I'll be waiting for you J

Hershey Farm is much more than a delicious Lancaster County Smorgasbord and Inn. Hershey Farm plays host to fun farm animals, walking trails, a fishing lake and more! In the next few posts we will discover together everything Hershey Farm has to offer in Lancaster County, PA.
Last week, while the sun was shining, I toured part of Hershey Farm's 23 acres. Starting in front of Hershey Farm Restaurant I was delighted to meet the two newest additions to the Hershey Farm family, sheep named Buwe (pronounced Boova - it means boy in PA Dutch) and his sister Fluff. These friendly farm animals greeted me with sweet faces and happy personalities, even before I produced a bag of animal feed I had brought along (feed for the animals is available in the Inn lobby and the Outdoor Market).
After visiting with Buwe and Fluff I made my way down to the red barn. The red barn is located behind the restaurant next to the fishing pond (a future post). The red barn is home to a few goat families. A trip to Hershey Farm, especially in the Spring and Summer months would not be complete without visiting these characters. Each goat will compete for your attention using every trick in the book. These clever farm animals enjoy eating feed from your hand and being scratched on the head.
Each grouping of goats has an inside and an outside pen, which makes visiting in wet and rainy weather possible. When you are in the area, plan on taking the time to visit the fun and friendly farm animals that call Hershey Farm home.

My name is Michelle Wood and I joined Hershey Farm March of 2002 as an administrative assistant. After just a few days I knew my decision to join Hershey Farm was the right one. There was such a warm and caring atmosphere among the management and employees. Coming from a manufacturing background, this was a new and delightfully different experience from the work environment I was familiar with.
This is the first job I have had that I can honestly say I enjoy. You can usually find me in the corporate office doing the daily bookkeeping and office duties or running errands through out the day. I assist the CFO and am the one to come to for payroll, employee or insurance issues.
Hershey Farm and its people mean a lot to me and I want to be here to see it flourish and grow. It is a promising place both spiritually and personably and I wish for everyone who spends time here the same warm and wonderful feeling I experience.

Hello!
I wasn't able to get over to thank you in person for everything! Our stay was amazing! My group wanted to know when I was going to arrange another
one- at this point I just laughed (I was lucky to be healthy enough to travel this time around), but when I do get around to it, Hershey Farms will be first on my list.
Even my husband really enjoyed our stay and was brainstorming when/ways that we could make personal trips to visit Hershey Farms again. We really liked our room- it was the first time we had to relax as a family since we had
Gianna- who also enjoyed herself very much... especially with the geese.
Of course we all also enjoyed the food! I really cannot say enough good things about it. The group enjoyed the play as well- maybe when my little girls get old enough we'll be able to take them to see a show too.
Thanks for everything once again, and I hope to have to opportunity to schedule another group trip with you in the "near" future!
God bless (and thanks for the prayers!)
-Bridgette

Dear Hershey Farm Inn,
We were very pleased with our stay at the Hershey Farm Inn. Our room was cute and cozy and most of all it was clean and very neat and the room did not smell damp or musty like most hotel/motels do. The Inn was located near our travel plans to Sight & Sound Theater and The Mennonite Tabernacle Tour and Mall.
We had the pleasure of dining at the Inn for Breakfast and Dinner we must say that the food was excellent and had a large variety types of food. My children enjoyed the most was the live animals you had in the farm, along with feeding the ducks in your pond. **View photos here.**
We were very pleased with our stay at Hershey Farm Inn...we will definitely plan our next stay soon!
Thank you!

Words cannot express the whoopie pie [checkers] contest that you set up. My people had so much fun they are still talking about it. The way you set it up [the experience] with a real checker board and then use the [red velvet] and chocolate whoopie pies as the checkers was so neat.
We do a lot on our tours to make thinks fun and different. This has to be rated #1, it was the best that I have ever done. We can hardly wait until next time to do it again. Now my people take it with even more fun when they put them on my head and smeared [icing] on my bald head. But we love to have fun. I would highly suggest [adding Whoopie Pie Checkers Interactive Experience Package] to any group [looking for something new].
This would be a lot of fun and very different. I tell everyone that Hershey Farm is the best, always great food, service, and fun.

Yesterday, April 8, 2009, Hershey Farm's new $9.99 Menu Meals Menu began and I decided to bring my friend Nicole along for the experience. First I should explain how the $9.99 Menu Meals work. When seated by the hostess, ours was a friendly girl named Courtney, you are given the traditional Hershey Farm menu as well as the feature Menu Meals Menu. A quick scan of the menu lets me know that this is a great value. For just $9.99 you are given a choice of one of 4 tasty looking entrée's, a side, homemade dessert and drink. It is rare to find a meal for less than 10 dollars that includes a drink these days. The entrée choices were, steak tenderloin with parmesan peppercorn sauce, fresh baked salmon, Cinnamon apple pork loin, or a French dip sandwich which is actually only $8.99. Our waitress, Linda, took our order. Nicole chose the steak and I ordered the French dip sandwich.
After a brief wait our food appeared and it looked good. The melted cheese on my sandwich was just enough and Nicole's steak was tender and rich. Her mashed potatoes were actual potatoes, creamy and smooth. This was a lot of food for lunch but we managed! Linda came around again when she noticed our empty plates and took our dessert order. We both chose Hershey Farm's homemade chocolate cake. Other choices included apple pie, shoofly pie, and carrot cake.
As this image shows the cake was excellent, very moist, with three layers and just the right amount of chocolate taste (as if there is such a thing as TOO much chocolate). Pleasantly full I was happy to see that our total, with tax and gratuity was still under $25.00. I will have to bring another friend to try the Fresh Baked Salmon and Cinnamon Apple Pork! For lunch or dinner I would definitely recommend trying Hershey Farm's New Menu Meals. Delicious.

Joseph
Of all the stories in the Bible, the story of the character Joseph is perhaps the best parallel to the story of Jesus. Joseph's compassion, integrity, and strength of forgiveness, in a harsh and cruel time, make his story a timeless example, encouraging men and women to persevere through temptation.
All ages will enjoy Sight & Sound's depiction of Joseph's classic story. A cast of 45 professional adult and children actors, dozens of live animals, amazing and colorful scenes, including Joseph in his colorful coat 'flying' over the audience, larger-than-life staging that engages three sides of the audience, and twenty original songs, combine to create a truly unforgettable experience.
Based around Joseph's colorful coat, a vibrant color scheme is implemented in to every aspect of this wonderful production.
Guests will leave this production inspired by the character of Joseph, revitalized in their faith, and confident in God's glory.

Hello! My name is Wanda Hayes. I am the Service Manager here at Hershey Farm Restaurant. I have been with Hershey Farm for 14 years. When my kids were little I started working part time evenings and weekends and gradually became Group Services Manager. In July of 2006 I became the Service Manager here at Hershey Farm.
The best part of my job is meeting and talking with all of our guests. People come from all over, locally as well as out of state, to enjoy our delicious PA Dutch style of cooking.
Hershey Farm also has a great team of employees whose entire goal is to provide our guests with outstanding quality food and service. We want to see you again and again!
On any given day you can find me at the front desk, seating groups, or helping in the dining room. I love the variety that comes with this job, which included remodeling our dining rooms this past winter and, more recently, assisting at our 3rd Annual Whoopie Pie Festival. Boring is not a word one uses to describe life at Hershey Farm. Rarely do I find a quiet moment, but then again, I'm not looking for one.
The next time you stop by for breakfast, lunch, or dinner here at Hershey Farm, be sure to look for me!

According to the Lancaster, PA Visitor's Bureau,
Mud Sale is the Lancaster County term for an annual auction/sale at one of a number of local fire companies. The sales, appropriately named for the condition of the thawing ground, attract thousands of people looking for bargains on anything from Amish quilts and antiques to lumber, buggies and lawn equipment.
Most sales begin at 8:30 a.m. sharp, but activities continue throughout the day for those who wish to catch a glimpse of some local color and enjoy sampling traditional Lancaster County farm fare.

What's The Big Whoop? Taste-Testers Critique County Favorites
Just as beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so flavor is in the tastebuds of the whoopie pie connoisseur. Each person has his or her own idea of what the ideal whoopie pie should taste like. The whoopie pie that delights the palate of one person can be detestable to another.
We discovered this phenomenon at the Intelligencer Journal when eight volunteers agreed to taste-test 10 whoopie pies purchased at different places around Lancaster County." (Published on September 17, 2008, Intelligencer Journal (Lancaster, PA)
And the winner is: Hershey Farm Restaurant & Inn's whoopie pie!
When visiting Lancaster Pa, or if you already live here, stop in for the best Lancaster County has to offer!
